Weekly for Women (mostly)

The majority of these periodicals are variety magazines that seem to aim for stay-at-home moms, working mothers, young single/married women, or all of the above. There are variations of importance – in sexual content or explicitness, form and style, linguistic register – but the general format is quite consistent in categorization and breadth. The differentiation between these artifacts provides for an interesting commentary on reading material for women, periodical readership, and market fragmentation. The following are listed in order of sales. Once again the publisher Ringier proves the leader. There is a strong emphasis on the preparation of food, with advertisements, an insert, and articles. Also included: raising children, beauty products, health, games, fitness, and foreign language.
